There are various materials used to produce artificial grass. The quality of artificial turf mainly depends on the raw materials that make up the grass and its backing.

Kinds of fiber materials of artificial grass

These raw materials are those that comprise high quality artificial grasses. Artificial grass San Diego only use the best performing fibers for 100% client satisfaction that lasts for 20+ years.

1. Nylon (PA)

It usually makes up the blades of high-quality artificial grass. It is the most expensive fiber because it has the strongest resistance and color sustainability. Nylon can maintain its shape even with constant use.

2. Polyethylene (PE)

PE has the most grass-like feel among other types of fibers. It is most suitable for those who prefer softness and durability at the same time. Also, it prevents odor build-up because it does not absorb moisture. Artificial turfs made from PE also have great color sustainability even with adequate use.

3. Polypropylene (PP)

It is the most inexpensive among the types of fibers. PP is suitable for carpet-like artificial grasses, except that this type of fiber has low color sustainability and is prone to UV breakdown. It is most preferred for indoor use as it still possesses the flexibility and durability like that of nylon and PE.

4. Polyester

This one is usually used for the backing. High-quality artificial grasses use polyester tire for the backing for more durability and shock resistance that would fit any kind of indoor and outdoor usage.

The answer is yes, but not immediately. Artificial grasses that are made from high-quality materials do not fade easily even with much exposure from the sun’s UV rays. It would take about 10+ years at the very least for the color to fade, depending of course on the quality of the synthetic turf.

What causes fading?

Fading is usually caused by heat. The sun’s UV rays hit the blades of artificial grass and its infill causing the color to heat up and fade.

But since artificial grasses are most likely to be used outdoors, technologies such as the UV inhibitor is put on the blades in order for it to last longer.

The UV inhibitor protects the artificial grass fibers from excessive heat and minimizes tendencies of fading for a good long time. Most top of the line artificial turfs are now equipped with the UV inhibitor; but some use fibers that already have strong resistance from heat.

How to avoid fading?

One cannot avoid fading and wearing once the artificial turf has gone to its maximum number of lifespan. Warranties for fading and degradation are also offered by synthetic turf dealers. It covers fade and wear for a specific number of years.

While artificial grasses have UV inhibitor, it is always better to monitor your synthetic turf and always keep maintenance such as cleaning to make sure that it will last long.

As an animal lover, you know the needs of your pet. May it be a dog, cat, or a pig, they love to run, lay down and play with you outside. But sometimes, the play time turns into rough time especially when uninvited dirt guests invade your grass lawn to ruin the fun.

Cleaning your pet’s waste on the natural grass is really hard. It gets muddy when your pet pees and it gets stinky as the odor stays on the grass. Nowadays, many pet owners use artificial turfs on their lawns since it’s really convenient in terms of cleaning and maintenance.

You can clean your pet’s poop on artificial turfs in many ways. If urine’s your problem, artificial turfs can be instantly washed by water that will drain easily. Pick up the solid poop from the grass and use any household cleaner to get rid of the dirt and odor.

These more reasons why you should have artificial turfs on your backyard for your pets:

Feels like real grass

It’s good all year round

Safe for pets with non-toxic materials

Goodbye ticks

Cleaner paws. No more digging

Odorless

Pet waste does not damage or stain synthetic turf

Urine drains easily

There are several types of infill that can be used for your synthetic turf system. They are installed in layers to provide support for your artificial grasses, making sure that their blades are stable and slide-resistant. It also provides cushioning which will make the turf fit for different sports activities. At the same time, infills also make synthetic turfs look very natural.

Sand Infills

Pros:

Fit and durable even for extreme sports

Highly stable and will not move even under extreme stress

A cheap form of infill for artificial grasses

All-rubber infill are less likely to cause “carpet burns” or “grass burns” unlike sand and sand-rubber infills

Less likely to clog drainage systems than sand infills

Cons:

Contains high level of toxicity

SBR’s have high sulphur content that affects the stability of grass blades against UV rays

It also has high carbon content that accounts for its black color

Dangerous as it is prone to overheating

Highly prone to crumbling over time

Emits unfriendly odor if subjected to high temperatures

Will cause negative effects to the environment

Many if our clients are pleased with our finished work just for the fact that we actually can improve poor drainage issues. During the installation we often times need to correct the grade of their lawn area. This is simply done by adding more of our class 2 base in low spots so that water will drain toward the correct areas of the lawn. While we are removing the 4-6″ of existing sod and topsoil, we also re-route and install new drain lines and connect to existing drain lines to increase the drainage throughout the entire yard. By doing this, their new synthetic grass is installed properly with better results during San Diego’s heavy winter storms.
